Food and accommodation

We stay in a converted Victorian cowshed at The Kingcombe Centre, Dorset Wildlife Trust’s flagship reserve.

Staying at Kingcombe means we’ll be free to wander over 450 acres of nature reserve only a few feet from the front door!

You’ll have your own private room with an en-suite shower room. Rooms are single or twin-bedded. The rooms are compact but warm, comfortable and quiet. The twin-bedded rooms are slightly bigger – you can choose which you want, though we do have to charge slightly more for one person in a twin room simply to cover the extra room cost. (We do not charge single supplements for one person in a single room.)

There’s a shared kitchenette with tea and coffee facilities, a lounge area with views over the centre, and free WIFI.

All the heating and hot water is generated on-site using the latest sustainable fuel pellet technology and solar panels.

FOOD and drink

Meals are high quality, plentiful and prepared with local produce as much as possible. We’ll have a hearty, cooked breakfast made for us by the Kingcombe chef to set us up for the day ahead.  Lunch is usually under cover in a local pub or independent café, though we may occasionally eat outside. In the evenings we share a delicious, three-course dinner, made with Dorset produce at the Kingcombe Centre. A typical evening menu at time of writing (spring) would be asparagus to start with followed by roast chicken (free range) with roast potatoes and green vegetables (ratatouille option for vegetarians) and chocolate brownie with ice cream.

We are happy to cater for both vegetarian and vegan diets and individual food preferences. Please let us know at time of booking if you have any needs we should take into account.

Wine or beer is included with evening meals. There’s a stock of wine bottles and an honesty box for thirsty walkers who want further refreshment after dinner.

pets

Dogs are welcome to stay with their humans in ground floor rooms for a small surcharge (£7) when booked in advance.

The Orchard Hut

Those who want to be even closer to nature can stay in the Orchard Hut, a restored Victorian workers’ van in the orchard.

Here you can snuggle up and drift off to sleep to the gentle sounds of the night. Once providing shelter for road workers, this stunning van has had a makeover, including a cosy double/twin bed, log stove and electricity to ensure a comfortable night’s sleep before you wake to the sound of birdsong. You’ll have use of your own bathroom nearby, a private deck area and a firepit to toast some marshmallows. Pets are welcome too.

Book soon if you are interested in the Orchard Hut as there is only one and someone else might well get there before you! (Supplement payable for staying in the Orchard Hut, please ask us for details).

Your stay helps fund conservation projects
